Here is the newest travel report from the last 4 weeks from
Cairns to Brisbane while I am on tour again.
Sorry for taking so long to load the pictures.
They are in a pretty good quality and it takes years to download them.
It might go faster if you just pick on the frames to enlarge them.
On the 5th of January I arrived in Cairns and spent at
least 12 days there.
The hostel "Global Palace" that Christine from the
Kimberley Adventure tours recommended to me was really
good and after a daytrip to Kuranda (a village in the rainforest,
where they sell art and craft to the tourists)
with the skyrail over the rainforest and the scenic train
back to Cairns I started my trip here.
Then I spent 2 days on Cape Tribulation in a hostel in the
rainforest where I booked a horsebackriding which was very nice.
We rode through the rainforest and through the daintree tea plantages
and I realized that I really like to ride and that I want to do it more.
I also made a dy trip to Green Island and went snorcheling there
and finally I booked this 3-day/2-night diving trip on the sailingboat
Atlantic Clipper.
My divebuddy Susi from Berlin supported me in every way,
and we saw a big turtle and a manta ray, shark and several other fishes.
I also went on my first night divewith Susi which was a bit scary
but only until I noticed how far you can see the lights under Water.
Susi was perfect for me and we had several nice chats with Kristy and
Damon from Cairns and Ken the engineer from the Atlantik Clipper.
We were about 45 guests on board this boat and 15 crew members.
After these 3 days I wanted to dive more and booked a daytrip in
Townsville to the wreck Yongala so the next day I drove by Greyhound
bus to Townsville only to hear that the trip was canceled because
of bad weather.
So I left Townsville without having a look
at the Yongala by bus to Airlie Beach.
Airlie Beach is nice little town full of tourists and party and hostels but
if you don't go to the islands there is not much to do.
I got on a maxi (18.2 meter) sailing yacht called Samurai and we sailed
though the beautiful Whitsunday Islands.
The most beautiful beach I have ever seen the Whitehaven Beach
with cristal clear water, white sand and green trees arround.
But Boxjellyfishes in the water, so we had to wear the stinger suits
all the time in the water around the Whitsunday Islands.
In Cairns on this dive trip we were at the outer Reef without stingers
but the whitsundays are more close to the shore.
I also went scuba diving 2 times with Marie from Switzerland.
It was actually a very nice trip, especially because we were only
7 guests on board instead of 20 and 4 crew members.
During the first 2 days I was a bit seasick but on the 3rd day
we got in a little storm with some rain and quite strong wind
and I enjoyed it without feeling sick at all.
After Airlie Beach I took another busride to Rockhampton; everyone of
these bustrips is about 4-5 hours so very easy for one day.
In Rockhampton I decided to book a 3 day Farmstay at Myella because
I thought it is a difference to all this beaches and diving and
they offered horsebackriding 2 times a day.
It was a very good decision and I really can recommend it to everyone.
I took the bus from Rockhampton to Dululu and Peter picked us (Anuk
a women from Holland and me) up and we drove another half an hour to
Myella.
We had a short Breakfast got long jeans, long sleves shirts
and shoes for riding and got onto the horses.
2 hours later we got back, sweatty, dusty and dirty but it was great
fun.
They also have a pool and motorbikes and in the afternoon Peter took
us around
the farm and gave us a training on the motorbikes.
The meal was very good and because next day was Australia Day
and the family wanted to join the parade with car, horses and
motorbikes we painted a Myella Farmstay banner which was fun and
everyone could be as creative as one liked.
Next day we went to the city and after the parade and something to eat
we played Volleyball in the middle of the day.
It was already very hot (I guess around 30 Degrees )
but I couldn't stop and played about 3 hours.
Next day I nearly couldn't move, not because of the riding but
because of the volleyball.
Hovever we had plans and were invited to join a branding on that day
which sounded very exciting. In the car Lyn explained to us what
they actually do with the calves.
They got a vaccination, and 2 brandings (one from the owners farm and
one for the year where they are born) the bulls got kastrated and
all got marks in the ears and the worst thing was that their horns
were cut.
That was very bloody and these poor calves were shouting and
crying, and later the horn wounds were like fountains, my god
you can see by yourself on the pictures.
However the people say it is necessary, otherwhise thei would hurt
when they are transported.
For me it was very special because I don't think many peaople
get to see something like this but I had days later this picture
about the bleeding heads of these calves in my mind.
After Myella I took a 3 days tour to Fraser Island.
We had the nicest Tourguide Andrew and he explained everything
very well.
Fraser island is the world's biggest sand island with I think more than
40 lakes with the purest water ever seen.
We went to Lake McKenzie and Lake Wabby swam the Eli Creek
and climbed Indian heads where eveyone said we would see sharks and
dolphins but the sky was cloudy and the sea was too rough so we
didn't see any of these animals.
We stayed in the Kingfisher Bay Resort which was quite luxury and
I shared a room with Nicole from Germany and Lorna and Tracey from Scotland.
I hope you are well and enjoying your holidays!
After the Fraser Island trip I took the bus to Maroochydore to meet
Jenny and Ross from 5W who invited me to stay with them.
They live in a very nice house close to a wonderful beach with huge waves
where we went swimming every morning.
They also shows me how to surf on a boogie board.
I also stay with other members especially here in Brisbane but I will
write about that in the next report, because I haven't got the
pictures so far.
