Brisbane-Sydney-Canberra-Geelong-Melbourne-Hobart
2.02. - 14.3.2002
Hello everyone,
i am already in Auckland New Zeeland and my time in Australia is over for now.
After I spent nearly the whole February with members of 5W in
Maroochydore, Brisbane, Southport, Sydney, Wamboin near Canberra,
Canberra itself and Geelong I am now back on my own.
It was really great to stay with you all and I enjoyed to share a
part of your life, met your friends and also the conversations.
Thank you very much!
In Brisbane I stayed with Marion and her family in their wonderful
big house with the nice balcony where we used to sit during dinner
watching the sun go down. Marion also took me to the Alma Park where
I saw my first Koalas.
Also in Brisbane I stayed with Megan and her Boys Tim and Luke and
I especially enjoyed the last evening where we went out with friends
of Megan Kim and Mkesch (I am not sure how this name is spelled).
Then I moved to Southport on the Goldcoast where I stayed with Susan
who took me around the Goldcoast and through surfers paradise as well
as to an Art and Craft Market.
These wonderful houses on the waterfront in artificial canals where
we also made a canal tour. I really enjoed that as well as your
company and the discussions.
From Southport I took the Bus to Byron Bay where I stayed in a hostel
but had contact to the Miracle Center where I met Anna and several
other miracles and where I met another 5w member from Hamurg.
We haven't met before so it was nice to talk to Eva in German ;-)
after such a long time.
During a long overnight bus trip to Sydney I spent some days with Grace
who was the only one I knew before because she was in Hamburg last September.
She lives very close to the city center acessable by a 10 minute ferry ride
from Circular Quay.
We went to a picnic one night with her friend on the bay and while I
was with Grace I explored Sydney the harbour area, spent one day in Manley
and joined a walk along the coast from Bondi Beach to Bronte Beach with some
other 5W members from Sydney, Vancouver and England who were visitors at the same time.
This day I moved to Coral the Australian trustee in Sydney where her son
Ian took me on a walk in the evening along the coast and Corl took me through
the southern parts of Sydney close to Wolongong where the bushfires were distroying
a big area only last christmas.
After some days with Coral I went to Elisabeth and John wo were really nice
and who have a beautiful house near the harbour. Since John is from Austria
he also speaks German and they took me to a nice restaurant in Balmain and the
Cafe Berlin which is run by a German woman.
After this time in Sudney where I saw the Operahouse, visited the Art Galerie,
spent a day im Manly and did several ferry trips around the sydney harbour
I moved to Wamboin where I stayed with Jo.
That was amazing because it was as I heard before, the Kangaroos are knocking
on her door because they want to be feed and since Jo is raising some of them
with the bottle they are not a bit afraid of strangers.
After I stayed with Jo and her Kangoroos I moved to Anne in Canberra who is very
much interested in Art and took me to the Art Galery in Canberra, to the War Memorial
and even showed me her paintings which I think are really good.
Then I moved to Melbourne and was in the city during the Grand Prix.
I spent 3 days with Adriane in Geelong where she took me to a 17 km hike on the
Great Ocean road with picking Blackberries.
I enjoed that very but felt every muscle on the next day.
Adriane is a member of the Geelong walking group and so she is used to that.
We also visited the Bay around Geelong (I wrote the name in my diary but don't
have it with me tonight) and a nice little Art Galerie.
After Geelong I moved back to Melbourne and took the Ferry to Tasmania
where I stayed in Hobart for some days which gave me the chance to visit the
Salamanka Market and meet Helen and Andre, a couple from Servas who I contacted
before by email.
They are potters and have a very nice house with a pottery workshop, 3 turning wheels
and lots of Kilns and ofcourse lots of nice pottery in their home and in their shop.
It was very tempting to stay with them longer because we have so much in common
and I even was able to join their potter class one morning at the University.
I have not thought of having the chance to work with clay here on my sabbatical year.
